Volunteer Opportunities
It takes the dedication of many individuals and service organizations to maintain and improve the grounds of Camp Kiwanilong. There are several opportunities available for local participation, and even for “voluntourists” from outside the area.
Two or three times a year, organized work parties come together to help with various projects at camp, such as grounds maintenance, wood cutting, or cleaning and painting buildings.
A sample of other groups taking part includes:
The Astoria Rotary Club, which built a suspension bridge over one of the few remaining peat moss bogs in western Oregon
Local high school seniors doing community service projects
Astoria Point volunteers, who contribute community service hours
Windermere Group, which painted the Outpost Shelter and the Science Building, inside and out
The Ford Foundation, which rebuilt the Pioneer Shelter
The Seaside High School wood shop class, which built or repaired many items for the camp, such as benches, doors and shelters
The opportunities to volunteer are limitless. For information on how you can help with volunteer time or supplies, contact the Camp Ranger's Office at 503.861.2933.
Financial contributions are most welcome.
